Update on the Beijing Zion Church “October 9 Case”
ZCT 4/16/2026

The 18 pastors and co-workers detained in the Beijing Zion Church “October 9 Case,” on suspicion of “illegally using information networks,” are still being held at the First and Second Detention Centers in Beihai City, Guangxi Province. As of today, it has been 188 days.
1. For more than six months, the families have not received clear responses regarding the case, and their right to be informed has not been guaranteed. Today, a lawyer called the case management division of the Yinhai District Procuratorate to inquire and was told that the case has once again been extended for two months. According to legal provisions, major cases may apply for extensions for investigation and evidence collection. The case has now entered its seventh month of extension, yet we have not received any formal written notice.

At the end of March, the detained individuals were informed by case officers that the case had entered the “final interrogation” stage, but the specific situation remains unclear.

At present, those detainees in serious health condition have still not received effective medical treatment. With the hot weather, malnutrition, and poor living conditions, the situation is worrying.
2. In late March, some sisters detained in the Second Detention Center received copies of the Bible. However, due to the continued unlawful suppression of defense lawyers, normal meetings have not been guaranteed, and we are unable to obtain comprehensive and timely information.
3. Elderly parents of some detained pastors have been subjected to home harassment and threats by relevant authorities, causing shock and raising concerns about their physical and mental well-being.
4. Wives and young children of some detained pastors have been threatened by several unidentified individuals who suddenly broke into their homes, requiring that they “must not go out freely and must report to the local police station before going out.”
5. The legal team providing assistance to our family members continues to face extremely severe suppression. Every lawyer has, to varying degrees, faced investigations, annual inspections, summons, warnings, and even threats of suspension, revocation, or cancellation of their licenses.
6. Postcards and books sent by relatives and friends to the detained pastors and co-workers have been returned one after another, and the detainees’ right to communication has been violated.

We strongly condemn all actions that violate the Constitution and laws, and call for genuine respect for the rights granted to citizens by the Constitution and laws.

We also continue to pray earnestly for the innocent release of our family members.

May justice roll like great waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream. May light and goodness be manifested in this land.
